We’ve seen issues with the Clients recently (dropping shares, disconnecting, etc.) that were resolved by making  changes to the Registry Key on the Windows 7 or Windows 10 Pro platform.  For Windows 10,  only one entry is changed.

Close any open software and launch Regedit:

To launch, type regedi’ in the Windows Start menu, double-click regedit.exe   to open

For both Windows 7 and Windows 10 platforms, set the following registry key to ‘1′ :

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache

Double-Click ‘LargeSystemCache’ to make the change, Enter 1, Click ‘Ok’ to close.

For Windows 7 platforms ONLY, set the following registry key to ‘3′ :

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size

Double-Click ‘Size’ to make the change, Enter 3, Click ‘Ok’ to close.

Click the X in the upper right corner of the window to exit Regedit

Separately, the following may help with Mac connectivity to Windows:

On the Windows platform, go to:

Start Menu>type in local to get to the setting, double-click Local Security Policy to open

    Local Policies

        Security Options

Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level

Double-Click to Open,  Change to Send LM and NTLM Responses

Click Ok

Click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the dialog box to exit.

To facilitate the Connection of a Windows 10 computer  to older Mac and PC shares (even another Windows 10 platform), enable CIFS 1.0:

Go to the Windows Start menu - type in Features

Double-Click to Open 'Turn Windows Features On or Off'

Locate SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and enable all three entries as seen below:

Click Ok

Click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the dialog box to exit.

Reboot the PC for the changes to become effective.
