The backup and restore instructions previously provided with this technical note are no longer valid and must not be used.
If a search result, bookmark, or existing link brought you here for instructions on backing up and restoring an LDK license, you have reached the correct page. The guidance has changed.
The former procedure described how to back up and restore an LDK license on the same computer following hardware failure or operating system reinstallation. LDK protection now applies more stringent hardware and operating system fingerprinting, and the former procedure can no longer be used to restore the license.
Current procedure: transfer the license before making changes
Whenever possible, transfer the LDK license to another computer before repairing the licensed system, changing its
hardware, or reinstalling Windows. This helps avoid invalidating the license during the work.
Follow the current procedure in Transferring an LDK License.
Need assistance?
If you are unsure whether a planned change could invalidate your license—or if the computer has already failed and you cannot transfer it—contact xitronhelp@xitron.com. Include:
Your RIP’s LDK license serial number.
Details of the planned changes, or any changes already made.
Whether the licensed computer is still operational.
For help finding your LDK license serial number, see Appendix A — Finding Your RIP License Serial Number in DFE and GPS Workflow Licensing Overview. The RIP license number is separate from the server license dongle number.
If the computer is unusable and you cannot retrieve the number, explain that when contacting Support.
