Generating logs for Troubleshooting Navigator DFE

The most important log file for troubleshooting Navigator Server issues is the XFDebug.log, which records diagnostic output at various levels.

Step 1: Preparation

Before starting, close the Navigator application completely, then delete the following files to clear previous log data:

  • C:\Navigator\Navigator\XFDebug.log

  • C:\Navigator\Navigator\NavigatorServer.log

  • C:\Navigator\Renderers\NR_1\SW\clrip_0.log

  • C:\Navigator\Renderers\NR_1\SW\clrip_1.log

Step 2: Set the Log Level

  1. With Navigator still closed, locate the clrip.ini file:

    • C:\Users\xitron\AppData\Roaming\Xitron\NX\clrip.ini

  2. Open the file in Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/v8.8.3/and set the logging level to 2.

Step 3: Configure XFDebug Logging

  1. Launch XFDebugLog.exe from the following location:

    • C:\Navigator\Navigator\XFDebugLog.exe

  2. In the Configure menu, select Set Levels... and set the following components to Level 2:

    • Server App

    • Render Action

    • Web Server

    • Output Spooler

  3. Return to the Configure menu and select Message Monitor, then set it to Level 2 as well.

  4. Open the Modules menu and select the following:

    • Server App

    • Render Action

    • Output Spooler

  5. Leave XFDebugLog.exe running and start the Navigator Server.

  6. Run one or more jobs that reproduce the issue you are troubleshooting.

Step 4: Send Log Files

Once the issue has been reproduced, send us the following updated log files:

  • C:\Navigator\Navigator\XFDebug.log

  • C:\Navigator\Navigator\NavigatorServer.log

  • C:\Navigator\Renderers\NR_1\SW\clrip_0.log

  • C:\Navigator\Renderers\NR_1\SW\clrip_1.log

Step 5: Reset Logging

After capturing the logs, return to XFDebugLog.exe and reset all logging levels back to 1 to prevent unnecessary logging during normal operation.
