Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What shares are configured?

  • The main and RIP-only installers run Fixup Shares.bat located in User Resources\Utilities, sharing %programdata%\Xitron\XiShare and %programdata%\Xitron\XiSpool_1. Full control is granted to all users, and %programdata%\Xitron\SLP is shared similarly.

Q. Do I need to update the DuraLink Spooler settings on each PC to mirror the Master PC?

  • No, most settings changes are automatically synchronized between the RIP PCs and the Master PC. Exceptions include fake press configurations.

Q. Will the system automatically adjust to press configuration changes?

  • Yes, the system silently adapts to configuration changes without user intervention.

Q. Why did my job fail with "No hosts have been provided" or "There are unassigned heads"?

  • You need to assign press heads to RIP PCs using the Head Assignment Tool in Server SetupManage Devices.

Q. What should I do if my job stalls at Idle in the Client?

  • Ensure the XiService is running on all RIP PCs. You can start it manually from the Navigator\Utilities folder or by logging out and back in.

Q. My PostScript job failed with "PDF Converter Error: Invalid parameter file selection." How do I fix this?

  • Check that the workflow includes a Stabilizer step after Hot Folder with the correct Job Options and Output Type settings.

Q. If the press IP address changes, do I need to update each RIP PC’s Spooler?

  • No, simply update the System Device and Spooler on the Master PC. Ensure configuration files like Postflight.ini and ODC.ini are updated accordingly.

Q. How can I calibrate the press using a SetGold profile?

  • Copy the SetGold profile to the appropriate folders on each RIP PC. Then, configure the calibration in the Navigator Configurations Editor (NCE) and ensure the RenderConfig is selected in the workflow.

Q. In what cases do I need a Page Filter Action in the workflow?

  • Stitching configuration presses require a Page Filter set to Stitching Mode, while Multi Stream or Slit and Merge modes are used in transactional systems.

Q. How are firewall settings configured during installation?

  • Firewalls are automatically configured for XiMonitor, SLPD, XiService, and XiEvents. The settings can be rerun via ConfigureFirewall.bat if necessary.

Q. How do I back up system settings?

  • Use BackRest to create backups of most settings. The resulting ZIP file can be restored individually or in full using Restore.py.

Q. How do I swap between two different Navigator and RIP folders?

  • Use Registry Editor to set HKEYCURRENTUSER\SOFTWARE\Xitron\Navigator\XiSpool_1 to the correct path for clrip.exe. Then, restart XiService from the control dialog.

Q. Can I apply different settings to Stage 1 and Stage 2 of a duplex press?

Q. How can I control page pool assignment in the DuraLink Spooler?

  • In %AppData%\Xitron\DuraLinkSpooler\DuralinkSpooler.ini, set OnlyAllocateRequiredPages=1 to assign only as many pages as needed.

Q. Where are these settings: RIPs per PC, Threads per RIP, Memory per RIP?

  • These settings have been moved to the Render Action configuration dialog in the Manage Workflow Actions section of the Navigator Server.

Q. Is there still a RIP Farm mode checkbox?

  • No, farm mode is assumed if the RIP count is greater than one. The Render Action can disable RIP farm mode if the job contains only a single page.

Q. How are calibrations, curves, and profiles copied to RIP PCs?

  • Calibration sets, curves, and profiles can be copied manually from the Master PC to the RIP PCs using the appropriate folders like Config/Profiles.

Q. What are the available settings in the DuraLink Spooler?

  • Various settings in the DuraLink Spooler are available for customization, including options for file output, page throttling, and thread priority. These settings can be found in %AppData%\Xitron\DuraLinkSpooler\DuraLinkSpooler.ini.
