Navigator DFE for TIFF is a Digital Front End that does not directly control the printer.  It makes TIFF output suitable for industrial and desktop inkjet printers without attempting to control paper paths or printheads or sensors.

Its suitable for R&D, testing, demonstration, and for production in cases where a fully featured print controller already exists.

Here are release notes.

Configure a TIFF output printing device

  • Create a device in Device Manager.

To configure Navigator DFE for TIFF output go to the Server application and go to Device Manager.

Add a device and choose TIFF.

Give your TIFF printer a suitable name and then you will come back to the Manage Devices dialog box; now with a device you can configure.

  • Set the output path

Click on the Advanced ... button.

Here you can choose a path for your TIFF files.

  • Optional preview file

You can also decide whether you want a BMP composite image of the TIFF separations to be generated with the TIFFs.   If you do, you can also choose their location.

This is entirely optional. Some printer controllers may present a BMP of the first page of a job to a user so they can identify the job they are trying to output visually.

NOTE:  We already generate a PNG preview for use inside the DFE.  This BMP preview is separate and additional to that.  Our PNG preview is used at several points in the DFE interface.  Such as this:

Whatever you choose in the TIFF Advanced Dialog regarding BMP will not affect the previews inside the DFE at all.

The only thing turning on BMPs will do is provide something like this as output:

Hit OK  and back out of that window.

  • Start your TIFF device

In Manage Devices, make sure that you have clicked Start Thread and your device state is "Online".

Next Step.  Configure your TIFF output options: resolution, naming, and more.
