The Preflight Action can be used to route jobs based on certain criteria.
The primary thing you might do with this is flow all jobs that pass your comprehensive preflight checklist into an output workflow and all jobs that fail into a workflow that simply pauses after the hotfolder and waits for human review.
But there are other things you might want to sort on.
In this first example case, we will route jobs based on size. Jobs that are already at full press sheet size will be moved directly into a plate output workflow. Jobs that are smaller than that will be moved into an imposition workflow so they can be imposed and positioned on the plate.
The routing capabilities of the Preflight action are controlled here:
First, set up a Profile that looks for a characteristic that you want to sort on. Then, choose a workflow for jobs to flow to when they meet the criteria you are looking for. Also, choose a workflow for jobs to flow to when they do not meet the criteria you are looking for in the Preflight Profile.
(To make a Profile, you have two choices.)
1. Go to the Server, here:
2. Make them with Enfocus Pitstop, then, import them into the Server by going here:
Here is an example of routing jobs based on whether they are press-sheet sized or not.

What about if you have 2 press sizes you want to check for?
You can stack these preflight checks as much as you like.
Here is a quick look at 2 preflight check steps that feed 3 workflows.
6 jobs thrown into Check step 1, flow through that and then Check step 2, and end up in 1 of 3 workflows for processing and output.
I'll explain how to set it up after the clip.
6 jobs end up in 3 workflows.
2 of them were 11x17 or 17x11 and end up in that workflow.
1 job was 25x19 and ends up in that workflow.
The remaining 3 need some form of imposition or plate positioning before they will be ready for output and they show up in the Needs Imposition workflow for someone to handle.
How do those workflows look?
The important things about Check step 1:
... and Check step 2:
What happens?
All the jobs go through the first workflow. 25x19 jobs go to the CTP output workflow and everything else goes to step 2.
Step 2 captures the 17x11 jobs and everything else goes to "Needs Imposition".
What else could you filter for with Preflight?
You can filter on anything the Preflight action can test for. Some ideas: color space, whether there are trim marks, font embedding, image resolution.
