Summary

Microsoft's Windows 11 Version 25H2 introduces updated driver signature enforcement that may prevent Xitron USB "Blue Box" drivers from loading correctly. When this occurs, Windows reports Code 52, indicating the driver signature can no longer be validated. If the driver fails to load, communication with the USB device is lost and plate output will stop until the updated driver is installed. A newly signed USB driver is available for Navigator RIP Version 14 and Raster Blaster Version 14.


Products Supported

  • Raster Blaster Version 14
  • Systems utilizing the Xitron USB "Blue Box" hardware

Products Not Supported

The updated USB driver does not support:

  • Navigator RIP Version 13 and earlier 
  • Raster Blaster Version 13 and earlier

Symptoms

After upgrading Windows to Version 25H2, you may experience one or more of the following:

  • Windows Device Manager displays Code 52 for the Xitron USB device.
  • Plate output fails.
  • Jobs abort immediately when output is attempted.
  • The RIP displays:
Error: Can't find the PB2 card Job: "<Job Name>" aborted Issue PB2 Abort

Cause

Windows 11 Version 25H2 introduces stricter driver signature validation requirements. Earlier versions of the Xitron USB driver are no longer accepted by Windows, preventing the USB "Blue Box" device from loading.


Resolution

Install the newly signed USB driver and updated device plugin provided by Xitron.

The update package contains:

  • XiUSB_Install.REL11B folder
  • Xdll64i.dll
  • xdll64i.pdb

The updated device plugin only supports Harlequin Version 14 RIPs.


Procedure

Important

  • Close Navigator RIP or Raster Blaster before beginning.
  • Administrator privileges are required.
  • It is recommended to back up the RIP installation before replacing program files.

Step 1 - Obtain the Update by Downloading it from the link below

Step 2 - Remove the Existing Driver

  1. Open the XiUSB_Install folder included with the update.
  2. Run the Remove.bat utility.
  3. Allow the uninstall process to complete.
  4. Restart Windows if prompted.

Step 3 - Install the New Driver

  1. From the same XiUSB_Install folder, run the Install.bat utility.
  2. Allow Windows to install the newly signed driver.
  3. Restart Windows if prompted.

Step 4 - Update the Device Plugin

  1. Browse to the Navigator RIP or Raster Blaster installation folder.
  2. Replace the existing Xdll64i.dll and xdll64i.pdb with the updated version supplied by Xitron.
    Example Location: C:\Navigator\Navigator 14.0r2\SW\Devices\"Device Folder" (ScreenPTR, ECRM, AGFA, etc...)

Step 5 - Verify Operation

  1. Launch the RIP.
  2. Submit a small test job.
  3. Verify that output completes normally.

Version Verification

The updated Xdll64i.dll verifies the RIP version during startup.

If a Version 13 (or earlier) installation is detected, the RIP log will display messages similar to the following:

[XDll32]: Application: C:\Navigator13.1r0\XITRON.exe v70.0.1.0
[XDll32]: This device plugin requires a v14.x RIP. Output is disabled.

Version 13 installations cannot use the new driver package.


Troubleshooting

"Can't find the PB2 card"

If output fails with:

Error: Can't find the PB2 card Issue PB2 Abort

Verify the following:

  • The new USB driver is installed.
  • The updated Xdll64i.dll has been copied into the RIP installation directory.
  • The system is running Navigator RIP Version 14 or Raster Blaster Version 14.
  • Windows Device Manager no longer reports Code 52.
  • The USB "Blue Box" is connected and recognized by Windows.

Preventive Recommendation

To avoid production downtime, install the updated USB driver before upgrading to Windows 11 Version 25H2 whenever possible.
